24 hours Puree Day 5th june

 24 hours Purée Day June 5th  2026

Live one day in the shoes of a person with dysphagia

Goal: To raise awareness, foster understanding, and support people who live every day with swallowing difficulties.

One day. One gesture. A reality that thousands experience at every meal. What if, for just 24 hours, you ate like a person with dysphagia? Not to imitate. Not to play. But to understand.

What you’ll feel:

• The monotony that sets in

• The gaze of others

• The constant vigilance

• The meal that becomes not a pleasure, but a risk to manage for many, this is every day without pause, without choice.

The Challenge

For 24 hours, consume only:

• Puréed foods (smooth or mashed texture)

• Thickened liquids, if you wish to go further

The goal isn’t to perfectly reproduce dysphagia, but to experience part of the daily adaptations:

• Choosing safe textures

• Eating more slowly

• Coping with food monotony

• Feeling the gaze of others

• Experiencing constant vigilance around meals

Share your experience at the end of the day:

  • Take a photo of your puréed meal
  • Add a short reflection: “What I learned today…”
  • Send your photo and message to dysphagiecanada@gmail.com

Each photo helps make a hidden reality visible.

Meal ideas to participate:

  • Coffee or beverage thickened with cornstarch
  •  Vegetable purée + puréed meat or fish
  •  Nourishing smoothie
  •  Homemade applesauce
  •  Lentil or chickpea purée
  •  Pudding, yogurt, or custard
  •  Crush your medication and mix it into applesauce

Why participate?

Because dysphagia turns every meal into a challenge.

Because understanding is already supporting.

Because awareness begins with a simple gesture.

Each image breaks the silence surrounding dysphagia a little more.

Why it matters: Because dysphagia is invisible.

Because it isolates. Because it turns a vital act into a constant challenge.

Because your participation can open someone’s eyes.

Thank you for taking part in large numbers.
